Recovery Month, in it’s 25th year, is a national observance sponsored by NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The goal of the observance is to:
educate Americans on the fact that addiction treatment and mental health services can enable those with a mental and/or substance use disorder to live a healthy and rewarding life
Just as we celebrate people who are managing health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and heart disease, it is important that we applaud the gains made by those in recovery from mental health and substance use disorders. In celebrating Recovery Month, I hope to spread SAMSHA’s message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, prevention works, treatment is effective, and people can and do recover.
